Get to know General Surgeon & Phlebologist Dr. Milagros Fernandez, who serves patients in Florida and Puerto Rico.

A general surgeon & phlebologist, Dr. Fernandez is a general surgeon & phlebologist, offering vein access for ESRD patients. 

Currently licensed to practice medicine in both Florida and Puerto Rico, she specializes in abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and often thyroid glands.

With a broad educational background, Dr. Fernandez graduated with her medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in 2009. She then went on to perform her residency in general surgery at the said establishment, finishing her training in 2015.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, she is board-certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.

General surgery is a surgical specialty that focuses on abdominal contents including the esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, appendix and bile ducts, and often the thyroid gland. A general surgeon performs a wide range of abdominal surgeries for many forms of intestinal and abdominal wall neoplasms, gallbladder disease, gastric and pancreatic disease. They follow the patient through critical care and surgical recovery all the way to outpatient care.

Phlebology is the branch of medicine concerned with the veins. A phlebologist is a medical specialist in the diagnosis and treatment of disorders of venous origin.

Successful in her field, Dr. Fernandez was named 2022 Doctors Excellence in Medicine by Best in Florida Magazine.
