  • Do medicines help in treating varicose veins?

There aren’t really any medications used to treat varicose veins. Some studies have shown that Horse Chestnut seed extract (an herbal supplement) can reduce symptoms related to varicose veins. compression socks are also helpful. Varicose veins are caused by a mechanical issue in the veins which will unfortunately not go away, so the veins are typically permanent unless treated surgically. READ MORE

  • What can happen if varicose veins are left untreated?

Treatment of varicose veins should be directed towards symptoms that you are having now, such as leg swelling, heaviness, itching, pain, bleeding, or skin damage. Any of those symptoms could develop later from the veins you currently have, but it’s also entirely possible that you won’t develop any symptoms. So, take care of them if they are causing problems now, but don’t do it to you because you are worried about developing symptoms later. READ MORE

  • What is the treatment for peripheral arterial disease?

The best treatment depends on many factors including the symptoms she is having, the location of the narrowing in the artery and her medical history. Treatment can range from medical management alone to complex bypass surgery. A vascular surgeon is the best person to determine what will be the best way to treat her. READ MORE

  • How to help my husband after surgery?

I can't say anything for sure, but your husband's itching could be a reaction to a medication he was started on after his procedure. Plavix (clopidogrel) is often prescribed after these procedures and itching can be a side effect. I recommend that you bring it up with his surgeon. Do not stop taking the medication without speaking with his doctor first. READ MORE
