An esteemed neuro-oncologist, Dr. Kurz is an Associate Professor of Neurology at the Chênevert Family Brain Tumor Center at Smilow Cancer Hospital at New Haven, Connecticut. She is an internationally acclaimed neuro-oncologist whose extensive education and experience in the field position her as a leader in the treatment and research of brain tumors.
She earned both her medical degree and PhD from Ludwig-Maximilians-University in Munich, Germany. She completed neurology residency at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and an esteemed fellowship in Neuro-Oncology Fellowship Program at the Massachusetts General Hospital/Dana-Farber Cancer Institute/Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. After serving as an Assistant Professor and Interim Director of the Neuro-Oncology Program at Perlmutter Cancer Center in New York, she returned to Germany to work at the Institute for Neurology and Interdisciplinary Neuro-Oncology at the University Hospital Tübingen and Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.
At Yale, Dr. Kurz leverages her expertise to care for patients with brain tumors, particularly gliomas and meningiomas, and those who experience cancer- and cancer therapy-associated side effects of the nervous system. Her personalized and patient-centered approach ensures that each individual receives the best possible care tailored to their unique needs.
In addition to her clinical responsibilities, she is deeply involved in translational and clinical research, working as a principal investigator on numerous investigator-initiated, cooperative group and industry-sponsored clinical trials, including several focused on immunotherapy. She is dedicated to developing innovative treatment options for patients with progressive and therapy-resistant gliomas and intracranial meningiomas, a particularly challenging area in neuro-oncology.
