About

Fabrizia Faustinella, MD, PhD, FACP, is a highly experienced internist with more than three decades of experience at the renowned Texas Medical Center. Throughout her career, she has held various positions at Baylor College of Medicine and the University of Texas Health Science Center, now known as John P. McGovern Medical School, in Houston, Texas. Dr. Faustinella's work has always revolved around providing exceptional patient care, advocating for patients' rights, and educating future generations of physicians.

Dr. Faustinella began her journey at Baylor College of Medicine as a trainee in the Department of Cell Biology, working under the guidance of Dr. Lawrence Chan. However, her passion for understanding the molecular basis of genetic diseases and gene therapy led her to join Dr. Tom Caskey's lab in the Department of Molecular Genetics. After completing her residency program in internal medicine at Baylor, she decided to shift her focus toward patient care, medical education, and advocacy, combining the realms of science and humanism to enhance patient outcomes and improve community health.

Throughout her tenure at the Texas Medical Center, Dr. Faustinella has actively sought out opportunities to foster collaborations in education and research between Baylor and the University of Texas. Notable examples of her collaborative efforts include serving as the Chair of the Comprehensive Clinical Competency Exam Committee and participating in the combined BCM-UT Master Teacher Fellowship Program. Additionally, she has been involved in a collaborative study on neural injuries and liposome-mediated gene transfer of nerve growth factors in primary septo-hippocampal cell cultures.

Dr. Faustinella has gained recognition on a local, regional, and national level for her contributions to medical education. She has developed enduring educational materials and has been involved in narrative medicine and media productions, which have received acclaim both nationally and internationally. Currently, Dr. Faustinella serves as the Co-chair of the TXACP-HPPC (Texas Chapter of the American College of Physicians-Health and Public Policy Committee). In this role, she focuses on addressing obstacles to healthcare access, healthcare costs and disparities, and strengthening the patient-physician relationship.

In addition to her medical pursuits, Dr. Faustinella is deeply inspired by her patients and often writes personal essays about her experiences. Her essays have been published in academic and literary journals, further showcasing her passion for the intersection of medicine and humanities. Dr. Faustinella's extensive experience, dedication to patient care, commitment to medical education, and advocacy work have solidified her reputation as a respected and influential figure in the medical community.
