Heather’s Dedication Shines Through Innovative Approach to Perinatal Care

Heather, a prominent clinical psychotherapist, has been at the forefront of providing specialized care in women’s health and perinatal health. She is the Owner of SilverLeaf Counseling and The Sweeney Center for Perinatal Care in Arnold, Maryland.

With a strong educational background from Towson State University and the University of Maryland, she has dedicated her career to supporting families facing challenging journeys during pregnancy and beyond. In 2014, she made a significant impact by opening Maryland’s first standalone Perinatal Hospice and Counseling practice. Her expertise extends to developing hospital bereavement programs, where she collaborates with healthcare institutions to enhance support services for families navigating perinatal challenges. 

Recognized as a national and international speaker, Heather shares her knowledge with healthcare professionals worldwide, advocating for compassionate bereavement care practices. Since 2009, she has actively contributed to the Anne Arundel County Fetal Infant Mortality Committee, driving initiatives to improve perinatal health outcomes in the community. Her commitment to excellence in perinatal care is further highlighted by her role in the development and writing committee for the CPLC exam, ensuring high standards in perinatal loss care.

In 2019, she established The Bill Sweeney Perinatal Care Fund, INC., a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to providing essential perinatal bereavement and palliative care services to families in need. The charity’s mission includes fostering education on perinatal death for families, healthcare providers, and the broader community, emphasizing the importance of holistic support during challenging times.
