From pediatric vision exams to eye health management to outpatient surgeries, Dr. Di Lorenzo and her staff pride themselves on providing the absolute best care to every patient. They offer state-of-the-art equipment and cutting-edge procedures in a friendly, comfortable environment.
A native of Toronto, Ontario, Dr. Di Lorenzo graduated with honors from the University of Toronto in 1983, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree. She then completed her residency in internal medicine at Wayne State University in 1991, followed by her residency in ophthalmology at the Kresge Eye Institute in 1994, serving as chief resident in her last year. She remains involved with both the Kresge Eye Institute and Wayne State University in the role of Clinical Assistant Professor.
Following her residencies, she opened her private practice, Somerset Ophthalmology, to use her skills and compassion to treat adults and children with a “total body” approach to ophthalmology. Listening to her patients’ individual concerns and questions is of the utmost importance to her, thereby allowing her to provide each patient with a particularized and custom solution.
Since obtaining her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin, Ireland in 1998, Dr. Di Lorenzo has earned board certifications through the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Ophthalmology.
She participates in numerous professional organizations, most notably the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Michigan State Medical Society, and the Michigan Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons, where she served as President in 2010. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine and surgery, which deals with the diagnosis and treatment of eye disorders. Ophthalmologists are experts in the diseases, functions, and anatomy of the eye. They may provide routine care such as vision testing, as well as prescribe and fit eyeglasses or contact lenses. However, ophthalmologists are also surgeons. They repair traumatic injuries to the eye and perform cataract, glaucoma, and corneal surgery.
Fluent in English, French and Italian, Dr. Di Lorenzo also has a passion for many external interests including acting, music, and virtually all athletics. In her rare time outside of her practice, she enjoys entertaining family and friends in her adopted hometown of Birmingham, Michigan and traveling the globe.
