Dr. Brian J Nguyen is a refractive cataract surgeon and a comprehensive ophthalmologist.
Dr. Nguyen was born and raised in the Bay Area and attended Bellarmine College Preparatory. He was one of only twelve Medical Scholars at the University of California of San Diego where he was honored to be accepted into the undergraduate and medical school directly from high school. Upon his graduation from the UCSD School of Medicine, he was the most awarded graduate with recognition in his research across multiple fields including Ophthalmology, Plastic Surgery, and Radiology. He then completed his intern year at Presence Resurrection in Chicago, then his Ophthalmology residency at the world-renowned Scheie Eye Institute at the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as Chief Resident. Throughout his career, he has been heavily involved in research and has won multiple awards at the national and international level, having been recognized by various organizations including the National Institutes of Health, the National Eye Institute, Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the Health Resources and Services Administration. He has also lectured at meetings across the country and has over 50 publications and presentations. Dr. Nguyen brings his Ivy League caliber care to San Mateo and the Peninsula and looks forward to providing personal and meaningful care for all of his patients.
When Dr. Nguyen isn't taking care of his patients and performing surgeries, he loves to cook, climb, surf, and hike.
