  • Do I need to have a CT scan before a dental implant?

Yes, It has become a standard of care to have a dental CT prior to an implant surgery. The CT is important to show the surgeon the anatomy of your jaw in a 3 dimensional field. This helps to avoid any damage to vital structures, or perforations through the bone. I have all my patients have CT prior to placing their implant. READ MORE

  • How long is pain after a dental implant?

A dental implant surgery will result in some discomfort, but the amount and duration depends on a few factors. These factors are the surgeon, the surgery design, and any complications that arise. If this is a simple implant placement which does not require an incision and reflection of your gums, then post op pain should be minimal and last a few days. Otherwise, you can expect some discomfort for 7-10 days. The use of meds like Ibuprofen and Tylenol do well to make any post op pain very minimal and tolerable. READ MORE

  • What's the best toothpaste for gingivitis?

I don’t find a particular tooth paste to be a limiting factor in treating gingivitis. Gingivitis has a few common causes, but let’s focus on the most common, plaque. No matter what paste you use, as long as you are adequately removing the plaque by both brushing AND flossing, you will reduce the incidence of gingivitis. Also, having a professional cleaning regularly with your hygienist will remove the tartar that you cannot with a standard tooth brush. READ MORE
