Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. James Feng, who serves patients in Royal Oak and Taylor, Michigan.

A knowledgeable orthopedic surgeon in training, Dr. Feng is currently a resident of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program at Beaumont Health.

The Department of Orthopedic Surgery Residency Program is a five year program that prides itself on its commitment to provide an educational environment that produces academically and surgically excellent orthopedic surgeons.

Over the course of five years, residents are exposed to a variety of practice settings, ranging from a large, tertiary care, academic center at the Beaumont Health Royal Oak campus, to a community hospital at Beaumont Taylor. In total, residents will spend 4.5 years at Beaumont Royal Oak and 6 months at Beaumont Taylor. Although there is no shortage of surgical volume between these two hospitals, residents sometimes elect to travel to Beaumont Troy or the Ambulatory Surgical Center to operate with different attendings and further enhance their surgical experience.

Academically, Dr. Feng graduated with his bachelor’s degree in Biology from New York University in 2013. He then went on to earn his medical degree from New York University Grossman School of Medicine in 2017, followed by his Master of Science degree from the Sackler Institute of Graduate Biomedical Sciences at New York University Grossman School of Medicine in 2019.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
