Bringing Extensive Experience and Leadership to FastMed Urgent Care in Hickory, North Carolina

Mr. Richard W. Poole, PA-C, MPAS, a dedicated and experienced Physician Assistant, continues to make significant strides in the healthcare sector through his unwavering commitment to patient care and community service. Currently a vital member of the FastMed Urgent Care team in Hickory, North Carolina, he has utilized his extensive background to enhance healthcare delivery since joining the facility in June 2020.

Mr. Poole’s academic journey reflects a strong foundation in medical knowledge and patient care. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Physician Assistant Studies from the prestigious University of Nebraska Medical Center (2012-2013) after completing his undergraduate studies in Biology at Appalachian State University. His healthcare career began with distinguished service in the U.S. Navy, where he excelled as an Independent Duty Corpsman from May 2005 to June 2017. In this position, Mr. Poole autonomously managed patient care in military urgent care settings, demonstrating expertise in various medical procedures, including diagnosing, treating, and prescribing medications. His roles included performing suturing, splinting, interpreting x-rays and lab results, and managing emergency procedures such as ECG interpretation and joint injections.

Mr. Poole’s leadership skills were showcased during his tenure as Clinic Manager with the U.S. Navy from October 2014 to May 2017, where he successfully oversaw clinic operations and ensured high standards of patient care. He further refined his expertise as a Physician Assistant Student at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where he trained from January 2018 to December 2019.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Mr. Poole is deeply committed to community service. An active donor with Be The Match, he has significantly contributed to leukemia patient care initiatives. Additionally, since May 2013, he has volunteered with the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5466 in Taylorsville, North Carolina, demonstrating his dedication to supporting fellow veterans.

Mr. Poole’s exceptional service in the U.S. Navy has earned him multiple accolades, including two U.S. Navy Commendation Medals for his exemplary performance during deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan, as well as a U.S. Navy Achievement Medal.
