Vance Whippo: Award-Winning Mental Health Professional and Community Advocate in Washington

Vance Whippo, DMin, MA, LMHCA, CCC, MHP, a distinguished Licensed Mental Health Professional and Certified Clinical Chaplain, has been recognized as the Top Mental Health Therapist for 2024 by Best in Washington Magazine. With over 20 years of experience in the mental health field, Dr. Whippo leads Whippo Counseling Services, PLLC in Marysville, Washington, providing a full spectrum of psychological counseling that emphasizes compassion, empathy, and guidance during times of trouble.

Dr. Whippo’s journey in mental health began with a Bachelor of Science in Management and Administration from Excelsior University, followed by a Master of Arts in Theology from Fuller Theological Seminary. He further pursued advanced studies, culminating in a Doctor of Ministry (DMin) from Provident University in 2020. His clinical training included valuable experiences at the VA Regional Medical Center in Seattle and St. Joseph’s in Bellingham, where he honed his skills in patient care.

With a unique background that includes 34 years of service in the Army, Army Reserves, and National Guard as both a soldier and a Chaplain, Dr. Whippo has a profound understanding of the mental health challenges faced by veterans. His experiences with soldiers suffering from combat-related trauma inspired him to integrate spiritual care into psychological treatment, recognizing that healing often requires addressing both mind and spirit. 

At Whippo Counseling Services, Dr. Whippo collaborates with patients to identify their needs and aspirations, utilizing evidence-based therapeutic approaches to foster relief and healing. His dedication to mental health is reflected in his active membership in the American Psychological Association and his fellowship with the Royal Asiatic Society.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Whippo is dedicated to philanthropy and international diplomacy. He serves on the Board of Directors for the Augustan Society, Inc., and as President since August 2024. As a Special Envoy with the International Society of Diplomats, a Bishop of TCI, and on the Board of Directors and as Executive VP of Medical Services for Grace Connection Services, Dr. Whippo continues to impact communities both locally and globally.

On a personal note, Dr. Whippo is a loving father to three wonderful sons, embodying the values of support and guidance both at home and in his professional life. His commitment to fostering mental health and wellness within his community makes him a respected leader and advocate.
