  • How do I change my thoughts from negative to positive?

To change your thoughts from negative to positive you have to start doing positive things. You got into the negative side by not doing and probably thinking too much about the past. I find that thinking about the past brings out depression and thinking about the future causes anxiety. The best thing to do is be in the present, but you need to empower yourself to make everyday a great day. Write a "to-do" list that will automatically bring you good thoughts, a good start is to do more for others and you will find that the joy you bring them will come back to you. READ MORE

  • Can ADHD be cured?

ADHD is not something that can be "cured" but you can better organize yourself such as using a planner, setting alarms, and writing down tasks. Also, focusing on reducing anxiety will also assist with focus so meditation is key. READ MORE

  • Are anti-anxiety drugs dangerous?

The answer is "yes" if you're not closely monitored by your provider. If your primary care physician is prescribing anti anxiety medication I would suggest consult with a psychiatrist since they are specialized with these types of psychotropic medication. They are also a better source when it comes to offering / suggesting alternative medication and/or therapies. READ MORE

  • What triggers bipolar disorder?

Bipolar is generally a chemical/hormone imbalance; however, at 16 years old, I would rule out a budding borderline personality disorder. It's more likely that there's psychological distress that is causing the symptoms (BPD looks like Bipolar sometimes). You have to look at sleep pattern to really determine the diagnosis.   Michelle Conover, Ph.D., Q.M.E. READ MORE
