Dr Neil LaHurd studied at the University of Miami and earned a BS degree in Biology. He went on to earn a degree in Osteopathic Medicine from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. He entered medical school on a military scholarship and after graduation started a General Surgery Internship at Eisenhower Army Medical Center. After graduation he served 2 years in Augsburg Germany, and 2 years at West Point Military Academy. While in Germany Dr LaHurd was given orders to deploy to Bosnia for 6 months and while there was the Lead Medical Officer for the 136th infantry division.
Dr LaHurd then entered a General Surgery Residency program in 2000 with a Navy Scholarship and graduated as Chief Resident in 2004. This surgical training was at St Barnabas Hospital in Bronx, NY, a level I trauma center. He went on to serve five years as a Naval Surgeon. In 2005 Dr LaHurd completed a 6-month tour in Iraq and was the lead Surgeon for the Fleet Surgical Team 4. After 10 years of active duty, he was honorably discharged in 2009 and began his career as a civilian General Surgeon and Emergency Medicine physician.
Dr LaHurd has received numerous Meritorious Service Ribbons and a Combat Action Metal for his service in Iraq. Dr LaHurd is board certified in General Surgery and also Board Certified in Emergency Medicine. He has balanced a career in both General Surgery and Emergency Medicine until 2012 when he committed all his time to Emergency Medicine and the house call practice he founded called GoDocs. Now he is committed to serving his community with AccessHealth.
Dr LaHurd is married to Maryjane his high school sweetheart and they have been married for 40 years. They have a wonderful son and daughter, Conrad and Alexandra.
