Get to know Pediatric Nephrologist Dr. Franca Mngu Iorember, who serves patients in San Antonio, Texas.

Dr. Iorember, a board-certified pediatric nephrologist, is currently a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the  Baylor College of Medicine and practices at The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio location. Her areas of expertise include chronic kidney disease, hypertension, and dialysis care. 

A part of CHRISTUS Health, The Children’s Hospital of San Antonio is the only freestanding hospital in San Antonio solely dedicated to providing world-class care to the children of South Texas and beyond. It is committed to a mission of extending the healing ministry of Jesus Christ.

Graduating from the University of Jos Faculty of Medicine in Nigeria in 1992, Dr. Iorember moved to the United States to further her studies. She completed her residency in pediatrics at The Morehouse School of Medicine in 2005, and her fellowship in pediatric nephrology at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in 2008.

Licensed to practice medicine in Texas and Arizona, she is board-certified in pediatrics and pediatric nephrology by the American Board of Pediatrics (ABP). The ABP is an independent and nonprofit organization that was founded in 1933. It is one of the 24 certifying boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties. 

Pediatric nephrology involves the diagnosis and treatment of patients with kidney and urinary tract diseases. Pediatric nephrologists diagnose, treat, and manage many disorders affecting the kidney and urinary tract, including kidney failure, high blood pressure, inherited kidney diseases, kidney stones, urinary tract infections, and abnormalities in the urine such as blood and protein. 

Honored for her expertise, Dr. Iorember was named Exceptional Women In Medicine for 2019, 2020, and 2021.
