Get to know Dentist Dr. Bruna Albuquerque Garcia, who serves patients in Gainesville, Florida.

A determined dentist, Dr. Garcia joined the Lemos-Abranches Laboratory at the University of Florida College of Dentistry in 2019 as a Postdoctoral Research Associate working under the supervision of Dr. Abranches. Her research focuses on microbial biomarkers associated with S. mutans-associated caries recurrence in children. Her career goal is to become a clinician-scientist in an academic institution and bring evidence-based clinical practices to dental students and residents.

Pertaining to her educational pursuits, she graduated with her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Ceara in Brazil in 2013, before earning her Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees at the same educational venue in 2016 and 2019, respectively. While pursuing her postgraduate studies, she continued to practice dentistry in Brazil for 6 years.

Dentistry, also known as Dental and Oral Medicine, is a branch of medicine that consists of the study, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity. Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens. They clean teeth, correct bite issues, perform surgeries, create beautiful smiles, and perform other duties to ensure that the teeth and mouth are healthy.
