How many acupuncture sessions are needed for a disc hernia?
Acupuncture can help with the pain associated with disc herniation. I usually see reduction in pain after 2-4 visits with longer lasting reduction in pain after 6-8. Depending on the degree of herniation it may take longer to see lasting results. Your acupuncturist should be able to give you an estimate on how many how many treatments they recommend based on your condition at your first visit. READ MORE

I depends on the type of insomnia you have and how long you have had it for. I typically see improvements in my insomnia patients after 2-3 treatments and more lasting results after 6-8 treatments but sometimes it takes a bit longer. Does acupuncture fix chronic pain?
It depends on the cause of the neck pain. I typically see a significant reduction in pain after 4-6 treatments. If the cause is due to tight muscles and posture it is easier to maintain the results, but if there is structural changes to the bones in the spine such as arthritis typically patients will need regular visits (usually monthly) to help maintain the pain reduction. Most patients should see some improvement after the first few treatments. Depending on how long you have had the sciatica or how severe it is will affect how long it takes before seeing more lasting relief. Acupuncture helps to reduce pain and inflammation and promotes blood flow in the area around the needles. Acupuncture can also help relax muscles that may become tense in response to the pain. Yes, acupuncture can help with swollen ankles. There are many causes for swollen ankles including heart and kidney disease so it would be best to identify the underlying cause of the ankle swelling do determine the best treatment. In my clinic I would take a full history and perform a physical exam to determine if co-treatment with, or referral to, another specialty is also needed. READ MORE
Does acupuncture for insomnia hurt?
Acupuncture needles are very thin about the thickness of a cat whisker. Most patients feel a slight pinch or prick when the needle is first inserted which goes away after a few seconds. Some patients report feeling sensations of heaviness, warmth, or slight soreness around the needle during treatment. Many patients report not feeling the needle at all. I always work within my patient’s level of comfort, if you are uncomfortable at any point I can adjust or remove the needle. Jamie, a licensed acupuncturist, is the Founder of Kuljis Acupuncture in Long Beach, California. She recognizes that everyone has their own unique history and health goals & aims to provide individualized care through acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
Kuljis Acupuncture is dedicated to promoting healthy, alternative practices to managing pain and discomfort. Treatments don’t just focus on symptoms — they concentrate on the root of the problem.
Jamie begins each session with a comprehensive patient review, designed to understand the individual’s unique health patterns and behavior. Then, she helps create individualized treatment methods, closely track the results, and modifies treatments as necessary.
Some of the conditions that she treats include low back pain, sciatica, neuropathy, sprain/strain, chronic migraines or headaches, arthritis, fibromyalgia, type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, post-stroke recovery, and more.
Academically, Jamie received her dual bachelor’s degree in Psychology and Dance from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She then graduated valedictorian with a Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine degree from Southern California University of Health Sciences in 2021.
There, she remains on faculty within the Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Program, teaching Introduction to Physical Assessment 1 and 2 to acupuncture students.
A Diplomate of the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, Jamie is also an active member of the American Public Health Association.
