Can sometimes be a tumor called paraganglioma ..or an anatomic variant known as high riding jugular bulb (vein) ..in either case, it requires clinical examination and possibly imaging in the form of either a temporal bone ct scan and/or MRI we can certainly see you if you live near Frederick md.     You should proceed to the ER you need imaging to include CT head and CT temporal bones and face to rule out temporal bone fracture, facial trauma, and /or an intracranial hemorrhage. READ MORE

  • Can I use estrogen drops or cream in my nose?

    We sometimes prescribe premarin nose drops for patulous eustachian tubes. I have not, myself, prescribed, estrogen for the empty nose...as this can have some systemic absorption and increase your risk for GYN malignancies, such as breast cancer etc... i have personally found that the product called Ponaris is helpful for the dry empty nose...it can be purchased on amazon..it is a nasal emollient developed by navy medicine for the NASA program years ago and very helpful. There are some rhinologists (google academic centers rhinology) who are attempting techniques to create new inferior turbinates in empty noses to help surgically. READ MORE

  • Dry skin on ear lobe?

    Good morning.. my apologies for the delayed response. Typically, if you have eczema or dry skin/psoriasis, this can occur also on the earlobe. If it is non-healing despite topical over the counter hydrocortisone, it may be 1) either infection which may need an antibiotic, or 2) it may need rx strength higher potency steroid creame, or 3) may need us to take a look to consider biopsy.   • Ringing in ears?

    Is it one ear or both ears? Hyperacusis and tinnitus, especially if unilateral and one-sided, always require MRI imaging to rule out a tumor of the acoustic nerve, which is rare and usually benign. EVERY patient with subjective noise and tinnitus requires diagnostic soundproof booth audiometric testing, which should be arranged by your ent physician. READ MORE

    You may require proton pump inhibitor pharmacotherapy such as protonix or prilosec..also occassionally barium swallow imaging. READ MORE
