Dr. Andres Parra is a highly skilled refractive specialist and LASIK eye surgeon. After graduating in the top of his class at Baylor College of Medicine, he went on to complete his Ophthalmology Residency and was a Chief Resident at the world-renowned UCLA Stein Eye Institute, consistently regarded as one of the Top 5 Ophthalmology Hospitals and training programs in the country by U.S News & World Report. Dr. Parra has performed thousands of vision correction surgeries and currently serves as Adjunct Faculty at the University of Houston College of Medicine and Optometry, where he shares his knowledge and expertise with students as well as other doctors in the community. Dr. Parra is passionate about helping his patients achieve the best possible vision to suit their individual needs and lifestyle using cutting-edge technology. He specializes in refractive cataract surgery, LASIK, PRK, and refractive lens exchange using premium laser technology. This includes our state-of-the-art laser suite equipped with the WaveLight® FS200 Femtosecond Laser and the WaveLight® EX500 Excimer Laser. In addition, Dr. Parra has special training in the modern techniques of Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS) to help treat and control glaucoma, in conjunction with extensive experience in SLT and LPI lasers.

Beyond his clinical expertise, Dr. Parra has maintained a commitment to leadership and service. He graduated with Honors from Washington University in St. Louis where he was selected as a full-tuition Annika Rodriguez Scholar, awarded for academic excellence, exceptional leadership, and outstanding service to the community. During his time at Baylor College of Medicine, he coordinated multiple vision fairs and screenings for children, indigent populations, and refugees throughout Houston. He was also nominated for the ASCRS Resident Excellence Award for his impressive leadership, educational achievement, commitment to research and contagious passion for patient care during his training at UCLA.

Born in Bogota, Colombia and raised in Texas, Dr. Parra found his calling in medicine at a young age serving as an interpreter for his mother at doctors’ appointments, where he recognized the great impact an empathic doctor can make in a patient’s life. He brings this perspective to his practice with a focus on putting his patients first and catering to their individualized needs. As a surgeon, patients can expect Dr. Parra to be a great listener with extremely high standards, meticulous attention to detail, and exceptional responsiveness throughout the pre-, peri-, and post-operative process. On a personal level, Dr. Parra is very easy going, approachable, and a conversationalist with an interest in people’s unique journey through life. He is proud to call himself both Texan and Colombian, and enjoys traveling with his wife and exploring the outdoors with his dogs.

Dr. Parra is fluent in English and Spanish.
