Raising the Bar for Exceptional Quality Dermatological Care in the Carolinas

Summit Plastic Surgery & Dermatology is thrilled to announce that Lydia Shedlofsky, DO, has received the Top Doc award. Affectionately referred to as Dr. Shed, she is an energetic and empathetic dermatologist who brings a passion for skin health and patient care to the Wilmington office. Specializing in skin cancer detection, treatment, and prevention, Dr. Shed offers patients access to comprehensive dermatological services within a unique practice model that combines plastic surgery, Mohs skin cancer surgery, and dermatology all under one roof. With over twenty-five years of experience, Summit Plastic Surgery & Dermatology is the premier destination for North and South Carolina residents seeking exceptional care.

A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Dr. Shed’s educational journey reflects her dedication to medicine. She earned her undergraduate degree from Guilford College in North Carolina before moving to Beira, Mozambique, where she worked as a research assistant. She subsequently obtained her master’s in medical education and her Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Shedlofsky completed her internship at Larkin Community Hospital in Miami and her dermatology residency at Honor Health in Arizona.

Dr. Shed is a Diplomate of both the American Board of Dermatology and the American Osteopathic Board of Dermatology. She is board certified in both General Dermatology and Mohs Surgery. In addition, she is actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Mohs Surgery, the American Society of Dermatopathology, and the Skin of Color Society.

Beyond her clinical expertise, Dr. Shed is deeply committed to philanthropy, supporting skin cancer awareness through lectures at Hoggard High School, the Melanoma Research Foundation, and free skin cancer screenings. She advocates for cancer research with the American Cancer Society, mentors research publications, and aids animal welfare around the world. Through these efforts, she continues to make a lasting impact on her community.

Excited to return to her Southern roots, Dr. Shedlofsky credits her success to her strong support system and personal experiences as a cancer patient. Outside of her medical practice, she enjoys bird watching, her pups, and antique car restoration with her husband, Andrew.
