Get to know Infectious Disease Specialist Dr. Jessica Seidelman, who serves patients in Durham, North Carolina.

Dr. Seidelman, an infectious disease specialist, is in practice with Duke Infectious Diseases Clinic – Clinic 1K in Durham, North Carolina. She feels that the best treatment she can give to a patient is one that returns them to the important things in their life that they experienced prior to their illness.

“I enjoy taking care of patients. Dealing with illnesses, such as infections, is difficult and disruptive to everyday life. I hope to provide comprehensive and supportive care to my patients in their time of need” expressed the doctor. 

Academically, Dr. Seidelman graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009. She then went on to earn her medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School in 2013.

Furthering her training, she performed her residency in internal medicine and her fellowship in infectious disease at Duke University in 2016 and 2019, respectively. She also completed her Master of Public Health degree in Epidemiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Public Health in 2019.

Dedicated to her speciality, she is board-certified in infectious disease and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Among her professional affiliations, Dr. Seidelman is an active member of the Musculoskeletal Infections Society, the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

Relating to her areas of research, she enjoys studying orthopedic-related infections – specifically infections that involve prosthetic joint replacement. She is also interested in the field of infection prevention and control, which focuses on a way to prevent and control infections that are transferred in the health care setting. Specifically, her area of interest is surgical site infection prevention.

Since 2019, Dr. Seidelman has been serving as an Assistant Professor of Medicine within the Division of Infectious Diseases at the Duke University School of Medicine.
