Alberto Giardini, DO '19, is a dedicated osteopathic physician, home-grown at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he completed both medical school and later residency, specializing in osteopathic neuromusculoskeletal medicine (ONMM). Within his osteopathic approach to treating patients, Dr. Giardini has years of experience and training in the many techniques of osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM), including cranial osteopathy and biodynamics.
Dr. Giardini also has had extensive training in musculoskeletal ultrasound diagnostics and interventions, where he regularly uses it to evaluate and treat patients in the office setting.
Wishing to better serve his patients suffering from headache disorders, Dr. Giardini earned additional certification in Advanced Headache Diagnosis & Management from Thomas Jefferson University Headache Center.
His passion for hands-on treatment stems from his many interests and hobbies since childhood, including fixing motorcycles and classic cars, playing music, martial arts, blacksmithing, and ax throwing, to name a few.

How can manipulation help severe menstrual pain?
There are some common patterns of somatic dysfunction, especially of the pelvis and sacrum, that can be found in patients with more severe menstrual cramps. Does Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment also include medication?
Osteopathic Manipulative treatment (OMT) is performed by DOs who are licensed physicians in the US like MDs. Since only DOs learn OMT, it is the primary difference between MDs and DOs. Both DOs and MDs can write for physical therapy and medications. DOs who perform OMT may find that medications and physical therapy may be appropriate treatments for certain conditions and are usually beneficial to be completed in combination with each other and OMT. Not all back pain requires surgery. Treatment strategies should be tailored to individual patients, some patients need surgery and some don't.
