  • How long does it take to fix depression?

That is such a tough question to answer. A lot of factors go into why we are experiencing depression and therefore how to go about treating it can be extremely variable and individually based. A person's readiness for change, both cognitively and emotionally, is generally the most important marker I have found in guessing at how long it will take for things to be different. There really is not an exact answer of how long this journey may be for you. Having a good support system is really important though, such as friends and/or family, a counselor/therapist, and/or doctor/psychiatrist is a pretty solid team. READ MORE

  • Will antidepressants help my anxiety?

A lot of antidepressant medications can also be useful for anxiety. However, consulting with a psychiatrist or physician who is well informed in the use of psychotropic medications is needed to ensure the best medication is utilized. READ MORE

  • Do I need to take medication for anxiety?

There are many effective treatments for anxiety such as EMDR, CBT, and DBT. Medication is one option, that can be very useful, especially when used in combination with therapy. READ MORE

  • Which therapy is considered the best for depression?

Great question. There are a lot of great therapies designed to help address the difficulties associated with depression. A huge part though is what works for you, a bit of trial and error and personal preference. Cognitive Behavior Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy are two great places to start. READ MORE

  • Can a psychologist help with schizophrenia?

Yes, absolutely a psychologist can help with schizophrenia. Medications are often a large part of treatment so having a team that includes a psychologist and a psychiatrist is optimal. Some states allow psychologists to prescribe medications as well so that could be an option depending on where you live. READ MORE

  • Do I have social anxiety disorder?

My heart goes out to you and your experiences. A formal diagnosis would be obtained through official mental health services, such as individual therapy, a psychological evaluation, or a meeting with a psychiatrist. I wish you luck. READ MORE

  • How can I help my child with behavior problems?

There are some differences in handling behaviors depending on your daughter's age. Some great resources are Love and Logic or other parenting programs, many of which these days are virtual or at least online. A family therapist might be able to provide guidance or suggestions and support for both of you. READ MORE

  • At what age can a child start behavioral therapy?

I would suggest finding a child therapist. I believe 5 is not too young but they would be able to give you more information. READ MORE

  • is anxiety causing me to become nauseous and throw up

It sounds as though you have done your due diligence with medical exams so it makes sense to explore the psychological side now too. Often our mental health affects our physical health and vice versa. Good luck! READ MORE

  • What is the best therapy for anger management?

Great question! I apologize for the delay in responding. I would encourage CBT (Cognitive Behavior Therapy) or EMDR as they are both very effective in working with anxiety and the underlying causes of anger. I will say though that the therapeutic relationship is the most important piece so having your son work with someone he trusts or feels comfortable with is key. I hope that is helpful. READ MORE
