What do you attribute your success to?
- Hard work he said takes a lot of that to become successful. The fact that he is involved in medicine that is different from what most doctors do is something that he thinks keeps in busy and he loves what he does. He was in family medicine for years and then got into wound care and hyperbaric treatments and has loved that ever since. He is the owner of his practice and the Hyperbaric Director as well for Sherman Oaks Hospital. He also works with the Ventura County search and rescue team and Dive team in the area to help treat patients that have had the water and carbon monoxide poisoning.

Get to know Hyperbaric Certified Physician Dr. J. Thomas Millington, who serves patients in California.
Since May of 2008, Dr. Millington has been serving as the Medical Director of Southern California Wound Healing Center in Thousand Oaks, California. He offers patient care for chronic wounds, supervises hyperbaric oxygen treatments, and runs the center.
As a hyperbaric certified physician, he has access to hyperbaric oxygen therapy for those patients who need the adjunctive addition of hyperbaric oxygen for wound healing. He is also a certified scuba diving medicine specialist, performing scuba diving physicals for recreational, government, and commercial divers.
Back in 1969, Dr. Millington graduated with his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College in Pennsylvania. He then went on to perform his internship at Harrisburg Hospital in 1970, followed by his residency in family medicine at Ventura County Medical Center in 1972.
Subsequent to his education, he attained board certification in undersea & hyperbaric medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. The Board is a member of the American Board of Medical Specialties that issues “certificates of special knowledge” in the specialty of preventive medicine.
Holding fellowship status, Dr. Millington is a Fellow of the College of Certified Wound Specialists & a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.
In the state of California, he is affiliated with Sherman Oaks Hospital, and serves as the diving medical officer for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Undersea Search and Rescue team, and the port of Long Beach’s Dive team
A physician who specializes in undersea and hyperbaric medicine treats decompression illness and diving accident cases and uses hyperbaric oxygen therapy to treat such conditions as carbon monoxide poisoning, gas gangrene, non-healing wounds, tissue damage from radiation and burns, and bone infections. This specialist also serves as consultant to other physicians in all aspects of hyperbaric chamber operations, and assesses risks and applies appropriate standards to prevent disease and disability in divers and other persons working in altered atmospheric conditions.
