Get to know Hospitalist Dr. Alberto Gomez Veliz, who serves patients in Miami, Florida.

Dr. Veliz is a hospitalist working at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, Florida. He is experienced at treating an extensive variety of disorders and illnesses that affect adults.

Jackson Memorial Hospital is a non-profit, tertiary care hospital and the primary teaching hospital of the University of Miami Leonard M. Miller School of Medicine. It is the largest hospital in the United States with 1,547 beds with a mission to improve the health of all members of the community by providing superior, patient-centered and cost-effective care in a safe, compassionate environment.

A native of Cuba, Dr. Veliz earned his medical degree from the Higher Institute of Medical Sciences in 1995. He then relocated to the United States, performing his residency in internal medicine at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Florida.

Managing both common and rare diseases, he is board-certified in internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM). The ABIM is a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

Licensed to practice medicine in Florida, Dr. Veliz is affiliated with Holtz Children’s Hospital and North Shore Medical Center.

Hospital medicine is a medical specialty that exists in some countries as a branch of family medicine or internal medicine, dealing with the care of acutely ill hospitalized patients.  Physicians whose primary professional focus is caring for hospitalized patients only while they are in the hospital are called hospitalists.
