Get to know Family Medicine Resident Physician Dr. Victoria Timmermans, who serves patients in Gainesville, Georgia.

Dr. Timmermans is a passionate family medicine resident physician dedicated to providing the highest quality care for her patients and their families. She is thrilled to be a part of the Family Medicine residency program at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

“While I’ve traveled the world, I have never found a place that feels so much like home like right here in Gainesville. I’m particularly excited about the robust rural medicine training so that no patient is neglected. Equally thrilling is the care given for bariatric patients who have newfound energy to do all the activities that bring them joy in life. The genuine hospitality, compassion, and teamwork found at NGMC inspire me to give the best possible care for every patient I see” expressed Dr. Timmermans.

Originally from Nanaimo, British Columbia, she graduated with her medical degree from the University of Medicine and Health Sciences, St. Kitts in 2018.

She moved from the west coast of Canada to the United States, where she has been delighted to experience the kindness and hospitality of her new community. She has cared for patients from birth to death and treats chronic disease, acute illness, and is excited to help her patients with weight management and mood stabilization.

Before studying medicine, Dr. Timmermans studied biology, physical education, and theology. These studies have taken her around the globe and have shaped the care she gives to her patients. She loves to brainstorm with patients about how they can make effective changes physically and mentally in a way that fits with their lifestyle and goals. She has a tender spot for victims of abuse in the community; she is diligent in encouraging and equipping families to pursue healthy relationships and take responsibility for their health and wellness.

Family medicine is a medical specialty devoted to comprehensive health care for people of all ages. The specialist is called a family physician or family doctor. A family physician is often the first person a patient sees when seeking healthcare services. They examine and treat patients with a wide range of conditions and refer those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.

In addition to her medical practice, Dr. Timmermans is actively engaged in educational efforts, sharing videos on a variety of topics on YouTube, and has several medical publications to her name. While she thinks the medical publications are lovely, she is most excited about a children’s book she wrote and illustrated, Holy Spirit My Cuddle Muffin, a bilingual book in English and Spanish.

In her free time, Dr. Timmermans enjoys watercolor painting, gardening, collecting insects, and spending time with her husband, including hikes and adventures with their pet family: a cat and a dog. While even the cat accompanies them, the truth is she’d rather be on the couch watching bird TV and not trotting up a mountain.
