  • Can physical therapy help my heel spurs?

Physical therapy can help manage pain but it will not resolve the bone spur. You may talk to your doctor about prescribing iontophoresis with an agent that can help break down the bone spur and finding a physical therapy clinic that does iontophoresis which can actually resolve the issue. • I have pain from my back all the way to my thighs. What could this be?

This sounds like you are describing low back pain with radicular symptoms (radiating pain). This is usually the result of nerve root compression. More often this happens where you only get radiating symptoms into one leg. However, you can be experiencing central stenosis which can cause symptoms down both legs. Physical therapy can help mitigate progression of these symptoms and prevent weakness from chronic compressions of the nerves in the low back. READ MORE

  • As a runner should I also undergo physical therapy to avoid pulls and tears?

You can go to physical therapy to prophylactically prevent injuries and address any strength/stability imbalances. However, insurance is not likely to cover a plan of care for preventative care. READ MORE

  • working out

Yes, you may continue to go to the gym after a chiropractic visit. No specifications on how long you should wait before exercising. Just consider that depending on the area you received treatment for may be sore and limit your tolerance to physical activity and exercise. READ MORE

  • What can I do for piriformis syndrome?

Some other means to manage your pain and symptoms more conservatively would include heat application followed by gentle hip external rotation stretches. Then followed by ice pack application to reduce tone and muscle spasms. If you are experiencing symptoms that spread into the legs "pins and needles" this may indicate the muscle is compressing the sciatic nerve in which case gentle ROM exercises or nerve glides can help. Please consult a physical therapist in your area that is familiar with orthopedic conditions to guidee you through treatment READ MORE

Dietary and cardiometabolic health in persons with and without spinal cord injury: a matched case NHANES control study

·       Compared the cardiometabolic health, dietary intake, and body composition of a cohort of individuals with SCI to a case matched series of control subjects from the CDC’s National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES) datasets

·       Compared IP and EP values between subgroups of individuals: including those with tetraplegia vs. paraplegia, those who experienced a respiratory issue in the last year vs. those who have not, and smokers vs. nonsmokers.

·       Established factors predictive of respiratory complications at one month, six months, and year after the study was initiated through follow-up phone calls.
