Get to know Orthopaedic Surgeon Dr. David Bizousky, who serves patients throughout the State of Pennsylvania.

Having been a practicing orthopaedic surgeon since 1991, Dr. Bizousky has been with the Center for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine (COSM) since 1994. 

Specializing in general orthopaedics, he has a special interest in sports medicine and arthroscopy. He treats traumatic and degenerative problems of bones and joints, performs knee and hip replacements and arthroscopic surgery of knees and shoulders, as well as fixes fractures and joint injuries.

A native of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, Dr. Bizousky received his medical degree from the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia in 1980. He completed a surgical internship at Allegheny General Hospital in 1985, then served in the Army as a general medical officer from 1985 through 1987 in Stuttgart, Germany. 

In 1991, Dr. Bizousky completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center in Aurora, Colorado. From 1991 until joining COSM in 1994, he served as an orthopaedic staff and chief surgeon for Combat Support Hospital in Heidelberg, Germany, and the 212the Mobile Army Surgical Hospital. During this time, he was in charge of the care of many military and other American and European athletes.

Board-certified in orthopaedic surgery, Dr. Bizousky is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Serving as a team physician for Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and area high schools, Dr. Bizousky can also be found on staff at both Indiana Regional Medical Center and Chan Soon-Shiong Medical Center at Windber. 

A Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (FAAOS), he is a member of the American Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Pennsylvania Orthopaedic Society, and the Indiana County Medical Society. 

Orthopaedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

Outside of practicing medicine, Dr. Bizousky enjoys playing basketball, playing guitar and piano, chilling with family and friends, and traveling.
