Get to know Diagnostic Radiologist Dr. Abdillahi M. Omar, who serves patients in Michigan.

Dr. Omar is a diagnostic radiologist in-training who is licensed to practice medicine in Michigan.

He is currently a Clinical Key Student Assessment Editor & Clinical Key Subject Matter Expert with Elsevier (September 2022 – present), a Doximity Op-Med Fellow (July 2022 – present), and a diagnostic radiology resident at Detroit Medical Center (July 2019 – present), serving as chief resident since May of 2021. Dr. Omar is also the author of USMLE Step 2 CK Plus, a comprehensive board review book designed to help medical students excel on the United States Medical Licensing Exam.

On his educational path, Dr. Omar graduated with his Bachelor of Arts degree, with honors, from the University of Toronto in 2013. He then went on to earn his medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine in 2018.

Furthering his training, he performed his residency in internal medicine with GBMC HealthCare in 2019.

“As I went through the clinical rotations, I genuinely enjoyed all the different rotations, and the unique roles each of these fields played in patient care. This made it very difficult to decide what field of medicine to apply for. Ultimately, I was looking for a field that would allow me to apply all the knowledge that I had accumulated throughout my basic science training as well as clinical rotations into my everyday practice. This is how I chose Diagnostic Radiology, as this was a field that interacted with virtually every specialty in the hospital as all specialties ordered some form of imaging as part of their patient care. In addition, I came to realize how valued the opinion of the radiologist was when it came to clinical decision making as entire management plans were predicated on what the radiologist said in their report” expressed Dr. Omar.

In 2025, he is expected to graduate with his Master of Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan Stephen M. Ross School of Business.

Diagnostic radiology refers to the field of medicine that uses non-invasive imaging scans to diagnose a patient. The tests and equipment used sometimes involve low doses of radiation to create highly detailed images of an area. A diagnostic radiologist is a medical doctor who specializes in diagnosing and treating disease and injury, using medical imaging techniques such as x-rays, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography (PET), fusion imaging, and ultrasound.

A blockchain technology and cryptocurrency enthusiast, Dr. Omar enjoys weightlifting, mixed martial arts, and PC gaming.
