  • How long after root canal retreatment does it hurt?

Typically, you can expect 24-48 hours of discomfort.  If your discomfort last longer you should contact your doctor.  Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • What helps with gingivitis?

Bottom line...reduce the bacteria count in your mouth.  Its a numbers game.  The more bacteria, the more acids, the more inflammation.  Brushing and flossing are the only mechanical means by which to remove plaque which is where the bacteria live.  Hope this helps. • When can I eat after teeth whitening?

Stay away from coffee, red wine, and blueberries.  We tell our patients that if it would stain your shirt, it would stain your teeth.  Normal diet can resume 24 hours after whitening. Hope this helps. Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • Is a dental implant stronger than real teeth?

Yes, Dental implants are stronger than your own teeth.  They are the most permanent replacement for missing teeth we have to date.  Typically we only see implants fail in smokers and uncontrolled diabetics.  Hope this helps. • Can I get 2 teeth implants at once?

Absolutely,  One surgery is better than two, unless extenuating circumstances complicate the treatment.  There are instances where 8 or more implants are placed in one surgery.  Hope this helps. Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • What should not be used to clean around a dental implant?

My favorite tool for cleaning around implants is a product called super Floss.  Individual strands of floss, covered with a sponge that has a stiff end to thread with.  Check it out.  Hope this helps. Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • Can I fly 4 days after a root canal?

Every dental infection is unique and every patient is unique so this answer will be a generalization.  Typically if the root canal was non-surgical, in other words the work was done through the center of the tooth and no surgical flap was performed then travel shouldnt be a problem.  More complicated root canals with aggressive infections may be the exception.  Your endodontist may want you on antibiotics.  Discuss with the provider.  Hope this helps. • How long is the braces treatment?

Every alignment case is different.  If you have a lot of movement needed then typical treatment with traditional orthodontic bonded appliances can be 2 years or more.  If you just have a few crowded teeth in the lower front, treatment can move quickly with removable aligners.  Sometimes 6 months or so.  The only way to determine treatment length is to have a diagnostic workup.  Ask your dentist for a referral.  Hope this helps! • Will tooth sensitivity go away after a root canal?

Root canal procedures remove the central nerve from the tooth, but tiny accessory canals may still house some nerve tissue.  You may still have some cold sensitivity.  Hopefully, though, the procedure took care of any pain you were having.  Lingering discomfort immediately after the procedure is expected.  If you still need pain meds 3 days after the procedure, contact your dentist.  Hope this helps. Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • Can I clean partial dentures with a regular toothbrush?

Yes, you can brush your partial with a regular toothbrush.  There are brushes made for partials and dentures.  The bristles are firmer and longer, so they clean a little better than a conventional manual brush.  Most partials are made of a slightly porous plastic, so don't use toothpaste as some pastes are too abrasive.  Try to use products specifically for partials and dentures.  I hope this helps. • What drinks to avoid after a root canal?

Restrictions may apply if you've been placed on antibiotics.  Other than that you should be able to eat and drink as normal.  Always avoid sugary drinks and make sure your water and tooth paste have fluoride in them.  Hope this helps.  READ MORE

  • What treatment is the fastest for gum infection?

Determining the source and removing the cause of the infection is key.  If the infection originates from the need for a professional cleaning, then securing an appointment to remove the causative deposits would be the fastest and best way to clear up gum issues.  Hope this helps. Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • Can gum graft cause any damage?

Any surgical procedure involves risk.  Gum grafts are usually a preventive procedure designed to put back what should be there in the first place.  Gum grafts do have a failure rate and talk candidly with your surgeon about that.  Hope this helps!  Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • Which electric toothbrush is best for gingivitis?

I prefer the sonic technology brushes.  These devices use ultrasonic vibrations to remove plaque.  The soundwaves actually reach beyond the bristles to burst open bacterial cell walls.  Watch the tutorials on Youtube.  The technique for brushing is entirely different than brushing with a manual brush.  Hope this helps.  Mary Swift, DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • Should partial dentures be kept in water?

Good question.  The correct answer depends upon which material your partial is made from.  To err on the safe side, store it in water and consult the dentist who fabricated the partial.  She/he will be able to tell you if your partial is made from a material that requires a water bath or not.  Hope this helps.   Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • How can I clean a dental implant bridge?

My favorite cleaning tool is Superfloss.  Its floss with a thicker, spongy layer that really grabs plaque.  Watch a demo on Youtube.  Hope this helps! Mary Swift DDS Dallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • Are zirconia crowns durable?

Zirconia crowns are very durable.  Zirconia crowns were developed for back teeth because of Zirconia's strength.  Hope this helps. Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • Can partial dentures cause bone loss?

More likely bone is receding because teeth are still missing with a partial denture.  Teeth and implants hold the bone in the area.  When a tooth is pulled and not replaced with an implant, bone recedes.  Hope that helps.  Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • What can I do for swollen gums?

Swelling is most commonly related to infection.  Infection can be from bacteria under the gums that needs to be removed.  If the swelling is isolated to a single tooth then the tooth could be abscessing.  Both should signal a call to action to visit your dentist.  Hope this helps.       Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE

  • How long does a molar bridge last?

Weve had bridges longer than weve had implants.  History tells us that If the supporting teeth are healthy and well maintained, the bite (occlusion) is correct, and the bridge is well made, it should last a lifetime.  Just like your house, the foundation has to be in good shape to support the structure.  With good bone for support, no decay and a good fit you can expect the bridge to last a lifetime.  Hope this helps Mary Swift DDSDallas Laser Dentistrywww.dallascosmeticdentist.us READ MORE
