After abdominal surgery the restrictions related to driving are two fold: (1) no driving is recommended while taking any narcotics (2) wearing of the cross body seatbelt might cause discomfort. An adult hernia is a weakness in the abdominal floor ; when you strain you notice the defect bulge increase in size, as you relax it becomes less visible. Above the dentate line, the bowels do not feel pain - so yes you could do a biopsy without anesthesia (we do rectal biopsies at bedside in the NICU). Can spinal anesthesia cause any issues?
Any invasive procedure comes with risks. This is a conversation to have with your anesthesiologist who is a trained medical doctor with additional 4 to 9 years of post-graduate training, especially if they have specialized. If you trust your surgeon, trust that they have a good team which includes an anesthesiologist that they probably work with on every case. To just give you a laundry list of spinal anesthesia complications does you no good, you need to know if YOUR anesthesiologist has had those complications. READ MORE
How long is the hospital stay for colon resection?
Length of stay is multifactorial but first is than elective procedure? What is the indication for the resection and what is the extent of the resection? Was the procedure open or laparoscopic and what is the underlying health of the patient. Patient, and intra-operative factors and surgeon experience make this a question for your surgeon. When can I go back to work after a kidney biopsy?
Kidney biopsy are usually performed as outpatient procedure under CT or US guidance by interventional radiologists. For an uncomplicated procedure you should be able to go back to work the next day with some restrictions on activity based on the indication for the biopsy. READ MORE

Can you repair a hernia without mesh?
A tissue repair (repair without mesh) is possible depending on the size of the defect. Have a discussion with your surgeon - this is an elective procedure, if you are not getting what you want then get a second opinion from another surgeon. READ MORE

Bilateral swelling is not related to the surgery - it sounds like venous insufficiency - probably worsened by fluids you got during the surgery and post-op decreased activity. You should make an appointment to go see your PMD. READ MORE

Raised in Canada, Dr. Durrant earned her Bachelor of Science degree from McMaster University in 1993, and received her medical degree from UMDNJ – Robert Wood Johnson Medical School in 2000. She completed her internship and residency in general surgery at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 2009, before completing a fellowship in pediatric surgery at the Oregon Health Sciences University in 2011. Finally, she returned to the SUNY Downstate Medical Center in 2012, where she furthered her training in pediatric surgery.
Subsequent to her education, the doctor attained board certifications in both general surgery and pediatric surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Achieving fellowship status, she is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), and Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics (FAAP).
Pediatric surgery is a subspecialty of surgery involving the surgery of fetuses, infants, children, adolescents, and young adults. Pediatric surgeons are trained as general surgeons who then go on to get specialty training to perform surgery on children and neonates with various congenital and oncologic issues.
