Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. Richard Sullivan, who serves patients in Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania.

An established emergency physician, Dr. Sullivan is the Medical Director of Emergency Medicine at Jefferson Hospital.

A part of the Allegheny Health Network (AHN), Jefferson Hospital provides expert medical and surgical care to residents of the Monongahela Valley and South Hills area of Pittsburgh. AHN doctors and clinical specialists work in multidisciplinary teams to provide personalized, comprehensive care for each patient, close to home — with access to clinical trials for the newest therapies.

The doctor’s educational journey began with his high school graduation from Marist High School in 1983. Following this, he pursued a Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry at Rockhurst University, which he successfully completed in 1987. During his time at Rockhurst University, he actively participated in Alpha Phi Omega and Alpha Sigma Nu. 

Subsequently, Dr. Sullivan went on to obtain his Doctor of Medicine Degree from Southern Illinois University School of Medicine, graduating in 1991. He then performed his residency in emergency medicine with Allegheny Health Network Medical Education Consortium (AGH) from 1991 until 1994.

Passionate about his profession, he is board certified in emergency medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). The ABEM is one of 24 medical specialty certification boards recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties.

Emergency medicine, also known as accident and emergency medicine, is the medical specialty concerned with the care of illnesses or injuries requiring immediate medical attention. An emergency physician works in an emergency department to care for acutely ill or injured patients on an unscheduled basis.
