Winston-Salem, North Carolina – Kavya Kannan, MD, a triple board-certified hematologist-oncologist at Novant Health Cancer Institute – Forsyth, is dedicated to transforming the landscape of cancer care through personalized treatment and education. Dr. Kannan’s journey into medicine began at Coimbatore Medical College in India, where she earned her Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery degree in 2011. Following her internship at Madras Medical College, she relocated to the United States to further her training, completing her residency in internal medicine and fellowship in hematology and oncology at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in 2019 and 2022, respectively. Her dedication to patient care is underscored by her certifications in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine, making her a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine.

Inspired by the remarkable stories of her patients from diverse backgrounds, Dr. Kannan founded Global Cancer Connect, a platform aimed at educating patients and healthcare professionals worldwide. This initiative reflects her belief in the power of hope and the importance of patient advocacy. “My patients are my greatest inspiration,” Dr. Kannan states. Their resilience and courage fuel her passion for this work, and she is honored to be part of their journeys.

In addition to her clinical practice, Dr. Kannan is an active member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology, continuously seeking to advance her knowledge and skills in the ever-evolving field of oncology. She believes that learning from her patients is one of the most valuable aspects of her profession, enabling her to grow both personally and professionally.

Fluent in English, Tamil, and Telugu, Dr. Kannan is not only a skilled physician but also a compassionate communicator, dedicated to fostering strong relationships with her patients.
