  • When is peeing blood an emergency?

Blood in the urine is something to be investigated. Often times there is microscopic blood that patient's don't even realize or see. Blood is a sign of infection, or injury from (urologic stone), and to a lesser extent cancer. If you are seeing blood it is more likely from infection or stone. A female may also see blood during menstration. What would make blood in the urine an emergency is if you have pain in abdomen or flank or if you have a fever. Great Question! Get to know Emergency Physician Dr. Alex Davila, who serves patients in California.

Having been an emergency physician most of his career, Dr. Davila is the CEO and Medical Director of Nightingale’s Hospice in Murrieta, California.

He found himself very interested in hospice care and its unique role in helping patients and families deal with one of the most difficult things they may face in life. At times, the hospital and the emergency department are not the right place to stand with the patient and the patient’s family. The hospital setting can intrude on precious, valuable time near the end of life. Care and comfort are needed, but in a more personal setting.

It is with these experiences and beliefs that Dr. Davila saw the purpose and usefulness of hospice healing, thus opening Nighingale’s Hospice. His mission is to provide comfort and dignity to patients and their loved ones through their end of life journey.

Growing up in Whittier, California, Dr. Davila went to Occidental College, majoring in Kinesiology. He then attended the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, graduating with his Medical Degree in 2000.

Furthering his education, Dr. Davila went across the country, to Pennsylvania, for residency training in emergency medicine at St Luke’s Hospital from 2001 until 2004. He then returned to California and has been practicing in the Riverside County area since.

He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM). It certifies emergency physicians who meet its educational, professional, and examination standards.  Distinguished with fellowship status, Dr. Davila is a Fellow of the American Academy of Emergency Medicine (FAAEM) and a Fellow of the American College of Emergency Physicians (FACEP).

Dr. Davila has been  affiliated with the Southwest Healthcare System-Murrieta for 20 years, where he is Chair of the Ethics Committee and teaches residents at the Southwest Healthcare Medical Education Consortium and is more recently affiliated with Loma Linda University Medical Center in Murrieta, California where he also teaches resident physicians.

So in an Emergency room or in your home Dr. Davila is in his element and comfortable with these diverse settings and very capable of bringing the highest quality care, health, and healing to the residents of Southwest Riverside, California.

On a more personal note, Dr. Davila lives locally and is married with three children.
