Dr. Rupali Patel is a Dentist practicing in Philadelphia, PA. Dr. Patel is committed to continuously growing and expanding her knowledge in dentistry for years to come. She is an active member of the American Dental Association, Pennsylvania Dental Association, Academy of General Dentistry, and American Academy of Facial Aesthetics.

She enjoys the rewarding experience of improving her patients’ quality of life by guiding them through the proper dental care while displaying excellent bedside manners. In her free time, Dr. Patel loves to explore the city of Philadelphia and enjoy its impeccable restaurants along the way. She is a loving mother of two boys, Kairo and Augustus, and spends most of her time doing fun family activities and making new memories together with them, and their dog named Nora.

Which denture material is the best?
There are a few denture materials, but the two commonly used are acrylic and valplast (nylon resin). Acrylic dentures are usually what a full denture is made of, or if you have a partial denture with a metal framework, acrylic is used here as well. The benefits to acrylic is that it is able to be adjusted, relined (refitted to the shape of your mouth) and repaired. This usually withstands the test of time in the sense that if the denture breaks or if a tooth needs to be added to your existing denture it is possible. The downside to this material is that it is rigid and can break. Valplast on the other hand is known to have flexibility and is marketed to be unbreakable. Some patients love this type of denture as you do not need a metal framework for strength. The downside to this denture is that if a tooth needs to be added or if the denture no longer fits, it cannot be repaired or adjusted, a new denture must be made. READ MORE
What is the best treatment for a gum recession?
Gum recession can be caused by many things, so its important to find out the cause first. Some causes are from an improper bite (teeth not in the correct position), grinding/clenching, and also from aggressive toothbrushing. After the cause is known, treatment of gum recession can be done with a connective tissue graft. This means that a donor site (typically on the palate) will be used to reattach tissue back to where you have the gum recession. READ MORE
Root canal treatment
Hey! Sometimes the pain from a tooth can cause the nerves on that side of the head to become painful. You can take Motrin for the pain, which should help. Post-treatment pain can linger up to 2-4 weeks, but the quality of pain should reduce over the course of time. Hope this helps! READ MORE

Hey! It seems like you should make a visit to the dentist soon. When considering broken teeth, sometimes the sharpness of the broken tooth can cause the tongue/cheek/gums to rub against it, causing irritation and swelling. The tongue could be swollen from irritation, but its best to get it checked so you can get the tooth fixed, double check that you don't need an antibiotic for that tongue swelling, and to also find out the cause of why your teeth are breaking as often as they are. Gums bleed a little when brushing after a deep cleaning
Glad to hear that you are taking the first steps to get back to a healthy state for your mouth! After a deep cleaning, the gums area still inflamed, which can cause bleeding for the next week or two. I would recommend to continue the mouthwash as directed, and continue to brush in the morning and brush and floss with string floss in the evenings. Can a root canal cause any health issues?
There are risks with doing a root canal, as there are for all dental treatment. Some risks involve properly completing the treatment, which means the entire root is cleaned from infection and sealed properly. Sometimes, issues arise when the root canal was improperly completed by not cleaning the entire root, or cleaning too deep, where the root was cleaned and the cleaning instrument reaches into the bone as well. What is the cheapest way to get my teeth straightened?
I would see a general dentist or orthodontist about braces! Sometimes, metal braces are the cheapest option, but sometimes if you don't have major movements that need to be done to the teeth, invisalign has different packages with different pricing. For example, if you have a lot to correct, there is a "comprehensive treatment" option which offers treatment for up to 5 years and is usually the most expensive, but for minor front teeth movements, there are "express" options that can move your teeth in 12 weeks, for a fraction of the price. Invisalign can absolutely straighten your front teeth! It's also the best way to straighten your teeth as it is the least invasive option as far as needing restorative treatment to your teeth (like crowns or veneers).
