Ensuring Bright Futures for Children’s Vision Through Coordinated Care and Cutting-Edge Treatment

Dr. Ayesha Malik, OD, is a dedicated pediatric optometrist in the Division of Ophthalmology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She provides exceptional vision care to children across multiple locations, including Specialty Care, Virtua; Specialty Care, Princeton at Plainsboro; Main Hospital; Specialty Care, King of Prussia.

Dr. Malik’s passion for pediatric optometry stems from her personal journey of discovering the transformative power of clear vision in childhood. “As a child I never realized I had a vision problem until I failed a vision screening and then went for an eye exam and was prescribed glasses. My world has been brighter from that day forward and now I have made it my life’s work to ensure no other child is deprived of clear vision.”

With a strong educational background from institutions like Anglia Ruskin University Cambridge and The College of New Jersey, Dr. Malik earned her Doctor of Optometry Degree from The New England College of Optometry in Boston, Massachusetts. Her clinical training experience is extensive and includes internships at Boston Children’s Hospital, Veterans Hospitals of Philadelphia and Rhode Island, and at a private practice in New Jersey.

Prior to joining CHOP, Dr. Malik honed her skills as a senior optometrist in England and later expanded her experience at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. Today, she focuses on providing specialized care to children of all ages, particularly excelling in diagnosing and treating vision problems in preschoolers.

Her commitment to early detection and treatment is evident as she advocates for technological advancements in vision screenings by pediatricians and schools. By diagnosing conditions like amblyopia at an early stage, commonly known as lazy eye, Dr. Malik aims to optimize the visual development of every child she treats.

“I hope that families come away knowing that we are committed to doing everything possible to ensure their child’s eyes are healthy and their visual development is optimized,” she says.

Beyond her professional endeavors, Dr. Malik finds joy in world travel, cooking, and photography in her personal life. She resides in New Jersey and brings a holistic approach to her practice, ensuring that families feel confident in the exceptional care their children receive at CHOP.
