Abraham A. Ariyo, MD, distinguished Nigerian interventional cardiologist and founder of HeartMasters Cardiology, continues to make significant contributions to the field of cardiology and the Yoruba community in Dallas, Texas. With a career spanning over three decades, Dr. Ariyo’s expertise has transformed cardiovascular care through his innovative practices and community initiatives.

Born in Ilesha, Nigeria, Dr. Ariyo graduated with Distinction from the College of Medicine of the University of Ibadan in 1988. After relocating to the United States, he earned a Master of Public Health from Harvard University and completed his residency in cardiology at Howard University. His impressive credentials include fellowships at prestigious institutions such as Brigham and Women’s Hospital, the University of California, and The Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he honed his skills in general, nuclear, and interventional cardiology.

As the Director of HeartMasters Cardiology and an interventional cardiologist at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Sunnyvale, Dr. Ariyo specializes in a range of procedures including coronary, renal, carotid, and endo-vascular interventions. His proficiency in balloon angioplasty, stent placement, and the implantation of cardiac devices such as pacemakers and defibrillators has positioned him as a leader in his field. 

Dr. Ariyo is board-certified in cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology, proudly recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He also contributes to the professional community as the President of the Ibadan College of Medicine Alumni Association’s North America chapter, where he plays a pivotal role in fostering connections among alumni and advancing initiatives that support medical education and professional development.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Ariyo is a prolific medical author, having written chapters in medical books such as the Modern Textbook of Medicine, and articles in professional journals such as Annals of Medicine, Archives of Medicine, Circulation, Journal of Cardiovascular Risk, European Journal of Cardiology, and The Journal of The American College of Cardiology. His research efforts have been instrumental in advancing cardiovascular health, notably leading the NIH-funded Cardiovascular Health Study that has significantly impacted American lives.

Dr. Ariyo’s commitment extends beyond medicine; as a prominent leader in the Yoruba community, he has championed various initiatives, including providing college scholarships for high school seniors and supporting the first annual Yoruba Fest cultural festival. As patron of the Yoruba Cultural Center, he actively promotes the progress and self-determination of the Yoruba people.
