Dr. Mendenhall is a board certified interventional radiologist, specializing in utilizing imaging techniques to perform minimally invasive procedures. His expertise spans the breadth of interventional radiology, and he practices at Vascular & International Partners in Scottsdale, Arizona.
Since 2016, Dr. Mendenhall has been actively involved as an interventional radiologist at Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix. Additionally, he contributes to medical education as a Clinical Assistant Professor at The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix, where he mentors students and serves on the Credentialing Committee and a member of the Clinical Competence Committee and the Program Evaluation Committee.
Born and raised in Indiana, Dr. Mendenhall’s journey traverses various roles and locations. Initially serving as a forward operator and combat meteorologic specialist in the Air Force, he returned to his home state to pursue education at Indiana University for both undergraduate and medical studies. Prior to medical school, he briefly contributed to Eli Lilly Pharmaceutical.
Dr. Mendenhall furthered his medical training as a radiology resident at Monmouth Medical Center, where he held the esteemed position of chief resident for two years. During his tenure, he completed rotations at renowned institutions such as the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Robert Wood Johnson. Transitioning to specialized training, he embarked on an interventional radiology fellowship at the University of Illinois in Chicago in 2013.
His professional journey led him to his first attending physician position at the State University of New York Upstate Medical Center, where Dr. Mendenhall gained insights into phenomena like lake-effect snow. Eager for new experiences, he later relocated to the opposite end of the United States.
Board certified in interventional radiology, Dr. Mendenhall is recognized as a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology (ABR). The ABR is a not-for-profit physician-led organization that oversees the certification and ongoing professional development of specialists in diagnostic radiology, interventional radiology, radiation oncology, and medical physics.
Among his professional affiliations, Dr. Mendenhall is an active member of the Society of Interventional Radiology and the Association of Program Directors in Radiology.
Interventional radiology is a medical specialization that involves performing a range of imaging and therapeutic procedures to diagnose and treat many clinical problems. Vascular & interventional radiologists focus on diseases of the blood vessels and lymphatic system, but also treat other conditions such as cancer and infertility. They perform minimally invasive treatments that have less risk, pain, and recovery time compared to open surgery.
When not working, Dr. Mendenhall can be seen spoiling his children and apologizing to his wife because he works so much.
