I have a deep passion for social work, rooted in the values of servant leadership, diversity, equity, and inclusion. My commitment to the health and well-being of the communities I serve is unwavering.

Over the past 20 years in the mental health sector, I have held various roles, including leadership, direct service, consultant, and strategist. My experience spans a comprehensive range of mental health services, including Adult IOP, Adult OP, Child and Family Programs (clinic-based and school-based across seven school districts and over 40 schools), lifespan services, geriatric programs with a focus on memory care programming, houseless and housing instability programs, psychiatric services, low-intensity medication management, crisis line programs, emergency shelter programs, transitional housing programs, youth housing, at-risk youth, and much more.

  • Can a social worker help improve my son's behavior?

This is a great question and I am glad you have reached out. I would absolutely talk to the school social worker about the behavior. Additionally, it wouldn't hurt to request a referral for counseling or see if counseling is offered at the school, some schools have embedded counseling programs at school. Now, I dont know the age of your son so depending on the age there are targeted behavioral therapies that a counselor or school social worker can provide in conjunction with the teachers. Its possible that this could lead to a 504 plan or IEP that supports your child with their educational goals and learning while also keeping them in school and meeting their social and emotional needs. Fighting can be an external action to an internal unmet need and the school can partner with you to support you and your son in understanding what is going on. READ MORE

  • Can a speech delay be fixed?

I would recommend a Well Child visit with your PCP to rule out any medical conditions and then also get a hearing test done as well. In the meantime you can order or make your own picture book to assist with non verbal communication and to help with the basics of routine items throughout the day like mealtime, hygiene, clothing transitions from day to night, and things like that.
