Supporting Families, Children, and Teens Through Neuropsychological Assessment
Michal Y. Boyars, PhD, NCSP, a licensed psychologist and nationally certified school psychologist, has been recognized as one of Maryland’s Top Doctors for her exceptional work in the field of child psychology. With specialized experience in trauma and its impact on school performance, Dr. Boyars is dedicated to helping children and teens discover their strengths, enhance their relationships, and achieve their full potential in school and life.
“As someone with mild dyslexia, I know how hard it can be for children to navigate school — and as a mom, I know how hard it is to raise neurodiverse kids” Dr. Boyars explains. “Fortunately, I also see how identification is a crucial first step to map out the tools needed for your child’s success.”
Dr. Boyars completed her Bachelor of Science Degree in Human Development and Psychological Services at Northwestern University in 2012, followed by an A.G.S. in School Psychology from the University of Maryland in 2019. She earned her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology, School Psychology, and Counseling Education from the University of Maryland in 2020, with her training further enhanced by a doctoral externship focused on behavior interventions at Johns Hopkins University and the Kennedy Krieger Institute.
Before joining The Stixrud Group, Dr. Boyars served as the primary psychologist for two Regional Early Childhood programs in Howard County, where she provided comprehensive assessments, counseling, crisis response, and teacher consultations. She also chaired many IEP and 504 meetings, and she helped write students’ learning plans, including goals, strategies for remediation, relevant supports, and accommodations. Her research has garnered multiple awards from prestigious organizations, including the American Psychological Association and the Maryland Psychological Association.
Dr. Boyars is committed to understanding and valuing every family she encounters. Her personal experiences and professional journey shape her belief that neuropsychological evaluations are opportunities to gain insight into a child’s needs and enhance their overall well-being. Following assessments, she provides specific guidance on actionable next steps tailored to each child’s unique journey.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Boyars remains engaged in the education community through pro bono teacher consultations and evidence-based social groups, such as the Unstuck and On Target! Curriculum, ensuring that her assessments yield relevant recommendations for both school and home environments.
