Bringing Advanced Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery to Mentor and Willoughby

University Hospitals is proud to announce that Ingrid Schmiederer, MD, a highly skilled general surgeon specializing in advanced minimally invasive and bariatric surgery, has joined the surgical team at UH Lake West Mentor Ambulatory Center in Mentor, Ohio, and UH Lake SOM Health Center in Willoughby. Dr. Schmiederer's extensive training and commitment to surgical excellence make her a valuable addition to the healthcare community.

Her impressive academic journey began at the prestigious Johns Hopkins University, where she completed her undergraduate studies in 2009. Dr. Schmiederer then pursued her Medical Degree at Drexel University College of Medicine, graduating in 2016. Following her medical education, she undertook a rigorous general surgery residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Queens, completing her training in 2023. 

Her passion for surgery and education led Dr. Schmiederer to further specialize in surgical education and simulation at the Goodman Surgical Education Center at Stanford University from 2019 to 2021. This unique fellowship honed her expertise in teaching surgical techniques, empowering her to inspire the next generation of surgeons while continuing to advance her surgical practice.

In 2023, Dr. Schmiederer expanded her surgical repertoire by completing a fellowship in advanced laparoscopy and bariatrics at the renowned Cleveland Clinic. This experience further refined her skills in minimally invasive surgery and bariatric procedures, allowing her to provide cutting-edge treatment options for her patients.

Thrilled to join UH Lake West Mentor Ambulatory Center and UH Lake SOM Health Center, Dr. Schmiederer’s goal is to deliver exceptional surgical care while also fostering a learning environment for aspiring surgeons. She looks forward to collaborating with her colleagues to provide the best possible outcomes for their patients.
