Get to know Orthopedic Surgeon Dr. Brian Braaksma, who serves patients in Texas.

Dr. Braaksma is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon at Texas Back Institute, operating out of the offices in Fort Worth and Flower Mound, Texas.

“Growing up on a farm, I understand and appreciate hard work. I know the value of returning to work and the need for patients to get back to high-level activities, back to supporting their family, and enjoying life. I chose to specialize in minimally invasive spine surgery to get my patients back to work and back to life much quicker” expressed the doctor. 

His hospital affiliations include Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Alliance, Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Flower Mound, and Texas Health Center for Diagnostics & Surgery Plano.

Attending Texas Christian University, Dr. Braaksma graduated Summa Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences and a minor in Chemistry. He then finished medical school at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York in 2006. Furthering his training, he completed a residency in orthopedic surgery at Rush University and a fellowship in spine surgery at the New York University Hospital for Joint Diseases. 

Achieving excellence, he is board-certified in orthopedic surgery by the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopedic residents and surgeons as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopedic surgeons.

For nearly ten years, Dr. Braaksma founded and ran a successful spine practice in Illinois, before bringing his family home to Texas.

On a professional level, he is an active member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the North American Spine Society.

Orthopedic surgery is the branch of surgery concerned with conditions involving the musculoskeletal system. Orthopedic surgeons use both surgical and non-surgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.

An expert in his field, Dr. Braaksma has several publications in orthopedic journals and multiple ongoing research studies. 

In his personal life, he enjoys playing golf, watching sports, spending time with his family, and traveling.
