A renowned transplant surgeon, Dr. John is the Chief of Renal Transplantation at Westchester Medical Center (WMC).
The flagship of the Westchester Medical Center Health Network (WMCHealth), Westchester Medical Center is a 415-bed academic hospital, one of three hospitals located on the Network’s Westchester County, New York campus. Founded in 1917, it is the regional base of tertiary and quaternary care and is the primary referral facility for other hospitals, serving as a lifeline for millions of people in the Hudson Valley.
With an impressive educational background, Dr. John attended Princeton University and received his medical degree from The Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He completed his residency in general surgery at the SUNY Health Science Center at Brooklyn, before going on to become a Transplant Fellow at New York University Medical Center and a Surgical Research Fellow at The State University of New York.
In pursuit of clinical excellence, the doctor is board-certified in general surgery and transplant surgery by the American Board of Surgery (ABS). The ABS is an independent, non-profit organization located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, founded for the purpose of certifying surgeons who have met a defined standard of education, training, and knowledge.
Prior to joining WMC in 2019, Dr. John served as the Interim Chair of Surgery and the Chief of Transplantation at The State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center.
Transplant surgery is where an organ in the body is replaced with an organ from a donor. A transplant surgeon is a surgeon who performs organ transplants. Among the many organs that can be transplanted are: kidneys. livers, hearts, lungs, the pancreas, the intestine (especially the small intestine), and recently, faces, tracheal (windpipe) tissue, and penises.
Dr. John's contributions to the field have not gone unnoticed, as he has received several awards and recognitions. In 2019, he was awarded the Schneps Media Award, and he has been listed as a Top Doctor in the New York Metro Area by the digital guide every year from 2018 to 2022. He has also been named a Top Doctor by Westchester Magazine from 2020 to 2022 and by New York Magazine in 2021 and 2022.
