How long should a dental bone graft hurt?
How traumatic was the surgery? What type of graft was performed? How large was the area that is involved? What response do YOU have to treatment? All of these factors and more go into the answer. The graft is a surgical wound. Like any wound, it goes through several stages of healing. The acute phase is the immediate response, this can last from 48 hours to a week. After this is a consolidation phase, then a maturation phase of the area. All of this can feel abnormal. Most of the time, a graft is like an extraction. READ MORE

What is the best way to clean partial dentures?
It does depend on what type of partial denture you have. If you have one that is all gum colored and kind of flexible, there is a special cleaner to get from your dentist. If the partial has a rigid gum colored material, you can soak these in denture cleaner and use a brush designed for dentures to brush them. DO NOT use regular toothpaste or toothbrush, these are harder and more abrasive, which will lead to scratches on the surface and contribute to bacterial accumulation. READ MORE
Can root planing loosen teeth?
Root planing and scaling is the treatment to remove tartar and calculus from the sides of the teeth and under the gum. This facilitates a healthy periodontal (gum) environment. If teeth feel loose after this treatment, it is likely because there was so much calculus around the teeth that they were effectively tied together by this debris. Once this was removed the teeth were able to move, especially if there was significant bone loss around the teeth READ MORE
How do you know if your gums are healing after a tooth extraction?
At first there will be a white area where the tooth was extracted surrounded by a red area. After the first week this will not be as red, then the area will slowly get covered by the gum growing aver the area. This healing is the same as any cut on your arm its just that it is waterlogged from your saliva, so the first part is white. Depending on the extraction there may be little chips of bone that come out over time. READ MORE
What happens if you don't floss while having braces?
There con be a couple things; First your gums can grow up around the brackets and teeth to such an extent that the braces will have to be removed until the gums return to health. Second the plaque that builds up on your teeth, builds up around the brackets, this leads to marks on the teeth after the brackets are removed, at best. Worse is the increased chance of decay around the brackets which leads to fillings and more problems for the rest of your life. READ MORE
