Being a board-certified and fellowship-trained orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Silon specializes in hand and upper extremity disorders at Mid-Maryland Musculoskeletal Institute (MMI) Division of the Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics in Frederick, Maryland.

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Silon is also affiliated with several hospitals and surgical centers in the local area, including Frederick Memorial Hospital, Physicians Surgery Center, and Frederick Surgical Center.

A firm believer in conservative care and therapies, she works with her hand-picked team of certified hand therapists. When surgery is required, for most procedures she utilizes minimally invasive techniques that lead to an easier, faster recovery with an earlier return to work and activities. Some of her areas of expertise include: carpal tunnel syndrome, De Quervain’s tenosynovitis, wrist and hand fractures, Dupuytren’s contracture, hand laceration repairs of nerve, artery and tendon, as well as pain, fracture, and dislocation of the hand and wrist.

The doctor’s acclaimed career in medicine began in 1998 after she earned her medical degree from the Jacobs School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at the University at Buffalo. She completed her residency at Henry Ford Health Science Center in Detroit, followed by her fellowship in hand and upper extremity surgery at the Curtis National Hand Center in Baltimore.

Among her various achievements, Dr. Silon has published articles on various topics, including one on distal radius fractures in the Journal of Hand Surgery and on endoscopic carpal tunnel release in the Journal of Plastics and Reconstructive Surgery. She is also the recipient of the Dr. Harold Frost Distinguished Resident Research Award and the Dr. Benjamin E. and Lila Obletz Award for Outstanding performance in Orthopaedic Surgery.

A member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, she is board-certified in orthopaedic surgery and hand surgery by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS). The ABOS is an organization with the goal of establishing educational and professional standards for orthopaedic residents and surgeons, as well as evaluating the qualifications and competence of orthopaedic surgeons.

Orthopaedic surgeons use both surgical and nonsurgical means to treat musculoskeletal trauma, spine diseases, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections, tumors, and congenital disorders.
