I certainly think surgery is a viable alternative if you are healthy and your quality of life has been impaired by this injury. At 80 years young, you are likely to have some degenerative changes of the articular cartilage consistent with arthritic process in the joint as well. I would first recommend that you have a clinical evaluation. If theres gross instability, an MRI would be the next step. Some symptomatic stability will respond to physical therapy embracing. Can I go to a swimming pool with a disc hernia?
Yes, you should be able to go into a swimming pool. Clearly, if the disc herniation is high in the cervical spine, you should avoid going underneath the water. One rib in chest feels more out then others
This can happen with the subluxation of the rib on the sternum. Usually its a traumatic episode that creates this. It could also be a congenital deformity. I would recommend starting with some form of imaging. Plain film can be somewhat limiting due to the overlap of Ribs on the sternum posterior. Can I go to a gym with knee arthritis?
Yes. Choosing lower impact exercises will decrease the load on your knees and make your arthritic symptoms. Less problematic during workouts. A stationary bike, elliptical trainer, and swimming or three excellent options. Some resistance training is helpful as well to stabilize the joint secondarily by improving muscle strength. Can hip replacement fix hip arthritis?
