Get to know Gastroenterologist Dr. Edgar G. Bigornia, who serves patients in Toms River, New Jersey.

As a board-certified gastroenterologist, Dr. Bigornia is currently in practice at Gastroenterologists of Ocean County in Toms River, New Jersey. Gastroenterologists of Ocean County is a practice consisting of board-certified gastroenterologists, who provide consultative gastroenterological services and perform endoscopic procedures in the convenience of their two office-based endoscopy centers. Their goal is to provide the highest quality of compassionate medical care and perform endoscopies in a convenient, friendly, non-threatening office setting. 

A graduate of Brandeis University, Dr. Bigornia attended medical school at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University in New York City, New York. He completed his residency in internal medicine training at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and served as a Chief Medical Resident at Booth Memorial Hospital. Thereafter, he went on to complete his fellowship in gastroenterology at New York Medical College. 

Before long, he became board-certified in both gastroenterology and internal medicine by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world.

As for the doctor’s accomplishments, he is the recipient of the Lawlor Award for the best scientific paper submitted by a fellow at the American College of Gastroenterology meeting. 

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focused on the digestive system and its disorders. Gastroenterologists are medical practitioners who specialize in treating conditions of the gastrointestinal tract and liver. Diseases treated by gastroenterologists typically include colon polyps, pancreatitis, peptic ulcer disease, nutritional problems, colitis, hepatitis, and gallbladder disease.

On a more personal note, Dr. Bigornia enjoys outdoor sports with his family. He listens to all types of music and relaxes by playing the piano and the guitar.
