Is this a miscarriage?
Actually likely to have been a “chemical pregnancy “ I hate using the term “miscarriage “ for that. Has an EXCELLENT prognostic sign for the future though. READ MORE
Birth control pills?
No problem at all. The week off ("dummy pills") and the "fake" period were inventions of patronizing docs who thought that by bleeding each month you would be more likely to "accept" the method as normal. When people have certain medical situations (like endometriosis ) we give pills 365 days a year. Take the WHOLE new pack and then you can take a week off (or not) Often if people have an event (wedding, vacation) this kind of "time switching" is done routinely. Steven R. Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Steven R. Goldstein, who serves patients in New York, New York.
Recognized as one of the nation’s top doctors in obstetrics and gynecology, Dr. Goldstein is currently serving patients at his private practice – Steven R. Goldstein MD – in New York City, New York. He offers highly personal and quality care to his patients, as well as remains dedicated to paying individual attention to each patient and her unique health questions, concerns, and needs. His areas of expertise include general gynecology, menopause, perimenopause, abnormal uterine bleeding, early pregnancy monitoring for miscarriage, gynecologic ultrasounds, pap smears, ovarian masses, cancer screenings, birth control, healthy aging in women, and more.
Alongside his role as a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the New York University School of Medicine, Dr. Goldstein is the Director of Gynecologic Ultrasound at NYU Langone Medical Center and is one of the most highly recognized and regarded individuals in the field of gynecologic ultrasounds. As such, he has championed non-invasive methods such as transvaginal ultrasounds and sonohysterography for diagnosis in women in comparison to the painful and expensive blind biopsies and surgical procedures usually recommended.
A certified menopause practitioner, he is considered the best menopause gynecologist in New York, having written several books and research papers on menopause and perimenopause. He has also contributed numerous chapters and papers to the medical field.
Back in 1975, Dr. Goldstein earned his medical degree from the New York University School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his internship in obstetrics and gynecology at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas in 1976, followed by his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue Hospital Center in 1980.
Following his training, he became board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a non-profit organization that provides board certification for practicing obstetricians and gynecologists in the United States and Canada.
Among the doctor’s various accomplishments, he is the inventor of the Goldstein Sonohysterography Catheter, the President of the International Menopause Society, an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a Fellow of the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, as well as the recipient of the Thomas A. Clarkson award for many outstanding contributions to menopause-related clinical or basic science research. What’s more, he is the recipient of the 2018 Joseph H. Holmes Clinical Pioneer Award from the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine in honor of his distinguished career in ultrasound in medicine.
Now a sought-after lecturer, Dr. Goldstein has traveled throughout the United States and the world to speak about issues related to obstetrics and gynecology. He draws on over 25 years of experience, continually demonstrating that surgery is not always the best option and many diagnoses are effectively treated through continued monitoring with ultrasounds and less-invasive methods such as sonohysterography or medication rather than surgery.
Obstetrics and Gynecology is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics, covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, and gynecology, covering the health of the female reproductive system, the vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts. An obstetrician-gynecologist, or OB-GYN, is a healthcare professional who specializes in female reproductive health.
