  • Which braces are best metal or ceramic?

Hi, I would honestly go with the metal brackets as they are stronger and don't break as easily as the ceramic ones. Even though the ceramic ones are tooth colored, they are not as durable and often will chip away or break and it is not very easy to remove them from the tooth surface (you will inevitably break one or more brackets during your treatment time). Personally, I recommend the metal ones (you are most likely going to be in braces between 12-24 months anyway so it's not forever and we want to move the teeth as quick and effectively as possible, which is why the metal braces are better in this case). If, on the other hand, you absolutely can't stand the site of the metal brackets, then ceramic ones can do the work but they're usually more expensive (because they are considered a cosmetic alternative) and like mentioned above, they break more often which can cost you more as the dentist has to order the ceramic brackets again. Hope this helps! READ MORE

  • Are black spots on teeth always cavities?

Black spots are not always cavities, but unfortunately, without an X-ray of the tooth, you won't be able to tell the difference a lot of times. So, it would be better to get it checked out, and if it is just a stain, then great, because it can get cleaned off. But if it is decay, then it is better to get it fixed because it will only grow and most of the time it does so without any pain. READ MORE

  • Do you feel sore after a dental filling?

Your jaw may feel a little sore if it was kept open for a while. Usually the dentist will give you a "jaw pillow" called a bite block so you can rest your teeth on that to minimize jaw strain. The tooth itself usually doesn't feel sore after the filling but may have some slight sensitivity initially but it does fade away. READ MORE

  • Can a toothache go away on its own?

Well, a toothache will eventually go away, but that would be due to the nerve slowly dying inside the tooth. Unfortunately, with teeth, the pain sensation is not the only factor to go by because the decay process will continue even if there is no pain (the mouth has so many bacterial components constantly attacking the tooth structure). It would be better to have the tooth looked at by a dentist so that an X-ray can be taken to see what the real damage is and figure out a treatment plan for it. READ MORE

General dentists provide a wide array of services that are vital to patients’ continued health. These services include: preventive services — helping to maintain good oral health by stopping disease before it takes hold in the mouth; restorative services — receiving timely and appropriate treatment when a problem is identified; as well as cosmetic services — performing a range of cosmetic procedures, such as teeth whitening, cosmetic bonding – even porcelain veneers. General dentists also address overall health concerns, as oral health is seen as the mirror of general health. In fact, some dental problems may reflect issues in other parts of the body and vice versa.
