Get to know Obstetrician-Gynecologist Dr. Jose S. Bendayan, who serves patients in Miami, Florida.

A highly trained obstetrician-gynecologist, Dr. Bendayan sees patients at his private practice – Bendayan Obstetrics & Gynecology – in Miami, Florida. Two of his signature qualities are his patience and calmness, which are evident from the moment patients meet him. He is soft-spoken and humble, never one to overreact, and mostly not one who wants to be in the spotlight. He sometimes agrees to be part of a televised or broadcast interview, but prefers to be the more quiet and discreet person among his all-female staff, who love to pamper and care for him, joke and laugh and share the beautiful moments that the patients give on a daily basis.

Born and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, he knew very early on in life that he wanted to be a doctor, and specifically an OB-GYN. He earned his medical degree from the Central University of Venezuela in 1994, and then relocated to Baltimore, Maryland, where he completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Sinai Hospital. He was recognized by his students who rotated from the affiliated Johns Hopkins Hospital, for his compassion and dedication to his career.

In 2002, Dr. Bendayan moved again to New York, hand-picked by the then Chairman of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Jamaica Hospital, who had worked alongside him at Sinai. He had made such an impact that he was offered a position as an attending physician, where he worked for seven years. His nurses and patients keep beautiful memories of his time there.

Recognized as a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (FACOG),  the doctor is board-certified in obstetrics and gynecology by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology (ABOG). The mission of the ABOG is to define specialty standards, certify obstetricians and gynecologists, and facilitate continuous learning to advance knowledge, practice, and professionalism in women’s health.

Obstetrics and gynecology (OB-GYN) is the medical specialty that encompasses the two subspecialties of obstetrics (covering pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period) and gynecology (covering the health of the female reproductive system – vagina, uterus, ovaries, and breasts).

As a testament to his success, Dr. Bendayan has been the recipient of the Patients’ Choice Award (2015, 2014, 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008), Compassionate Doctor Recognition (2015, 2014, 2013), and Patients’ Choice 5th Anniversary Award (2015, 2014, 2013, 2012).

Because of the strong family ties, he and his family decided to relocate to Miami, Florida to be closer to cousins and childhood friends and raise their children in an environment that was more like his upbringing and roots.
