Dr. Sayre is a skilled broadly trained general surgeon with a special interest in breast surgery. He is the Medical Director of the Beekley Center for Breast Health & Wellness in Bristol Connecticut as well as a senior member of the Bristol Hospital General Surgical team.

 

A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS), Dr. Sayre earned his medical degree from New York Medical College in Valhalla, New York in 1975. He then went on to complete his residency in general surgery at Hartford Hospital/UCONN in Connecticut. 

After completing his residency, Dr. Sayre has spent four years as Assistant Professor of Surgery at University of Connecticut Medical Center and School of Medicine. At UCONN medical center he developed his interest in breast disease.

 

In 1984, Dr Sayre moved to Bristol, CT and went into private practice. Dr. Sayre joined the Bristol Hospital Surgical Staff practice in 2014. Dr. Sayre has held various positions during his 35 years at Bristol Hospital, including Chief of General Surgery. Dr. Sayre led the development of a modern Quality and Peer Review Committee. Dr. Sayre spearheaded Bristol Hospital’s effort to become the region’s first Level 3 Trauma Hospital to be accredited by the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma. He co-chaired the highly successful Greater Bristol Breast Health Development Project. For this effort, he received the coveted Lamplighter Award from the New England Society for Healthcare Communications in Community Relations and Outreach.

 

Dr. Sayre was heavily involved in the development of the Beekley Conter for Breast Health and currently is the Medical Director. The Beekley Center for Breast Health & Wellness, which is a part of Bristol Health, is a state-of-the-art breast health center with the comforts of a high-end spa, all situated in a convenient, compassionate, and healing environment designed for women by women. 

Dr. Sayre enjoys teaching and currently teaches the surgical PA’s rotating through Bristol Hospital from Yale, Quinnipiac and St. Joseph’s University.

Dr. Sayre is most proud to be a member of a wonderful and talented Medical Staff at Bristol Hospital.

Dr. Sayre recently joined his longtime partner and friend Dr. Daniel Scoppetta in his medical mission to Jeremie, Haiti in 2016 and has been a regular traveler to Jeremie ever since. Dr. Sayre’s and Scoppetta’s goal is to help provide necessary surgical care and education in Jrermie and eventually make these services unnecessary, as Jeremie’s local surgeons become autonomous. At the direction of Dr. Sayre’s very capable wife, Kathleen they have set up a foundation to raise money to establish enduring Surgical Care in Jeremie, Haiti.

 

Dr. Sayre’s greatest award and reward comes from his wonderful patients. Over the last 40 years they have placed their faith and trust in him to allowed him to help them.  To them Dr. Sayre will be eternally grateful.
